Attend upcoming cuckoo training! If you are interested in volunteering for cuckoo surveys, this training is quite valuable. There will be a session in southeast Arizona on June 25 and 26. As you know, the western population of this species of greatest conservation need is proposed for federal listing as threatened. The final decision is pending this fall.

Instructors will provide a training manual which will include survey protocol, basic biology, ID tips and two CDs, a survey CD and a CD of cuckoo calls. For the field part of the training, bring your binoculars, hat and be prepared for warm weather.
Cost: $150 for consultants, $75 for agency/NGO personnel, free for students and volunteers. Make the check or money order out to EcoPlateau Research. The classroom session will be held at 1:00-5:00 pm on 25 June in Hereford at the BLM San Pedro Project Office (managed by the Tucson Field Office).
The field session will be held on 26 June at 6:00-10:00 am on the upper San Pedro River. Directions will be provided at the classroom session.
Directions to BLM San Pedro Project Office (Tucson Field Office): 4070 E Avenida Saracino, Hereford, AZ. From the State Road (SR) 90/92 intersection in Sierra Vista, drive south on SR92 for 7.3 miles and turn left on Avenida Saracino.
Accommodations: There are plenty of hotels in Sierra Vista and birder-oriented B&Bs in Hereford.
